Bid to Holiday Activity Fund to Department of Education Partners have put together a bid for funding to extend the programme to provide food and holiday activities during the summer holidays. The bid could be worth up to £1m, and would greatly enhance the amount of provision in Blackburn with Darwen for those on free school meals, at both primary and secondary levels. ‘The Blackburn with Darwen Food Alliance has been involved in developing the bid’, said Gillian Beeley, from Together Lancashire which leads the Alliance. ‘Partners include the Children’s Centres, Public Health, Blackburn Youth Zone, and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and Lancashire Foundation Trust. We hope to build on the fantastic work done by Kingdom Outreach over the last two years.’ The fund will enable partners to offer positive activities as well as a hot meal once a week as well as other meals to those in most need in our communities. ‘Whether or not we get the money, relationships are strengthening as we explore what we might all do to support our communities and ensure that our children are given the best possible start in life.’ added Gillian.
