Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming – Brexit update 7 March 2019

Sustain has been pressing policymakers to protect vulnerable people dependent for their food on the public sector and charities. Today we sent a letter to the Prime Minister and launched an e-action, calling on the Prime Minister to do just that.

Please: Urge Theresa May to make sure ‘no deal’ doesn’t mean ‘no meal’

And do let your supporters know. We will continue to press for a hardship fund and government actions such as curbing food price increases, guaranteeing food safety and standards and ring-fencing food supplies for those most in need.

Nightsafe Goes Green in 2018

Nightsafe worked with a number of partners including the John Laing Foundation to deliver a very special project over summer. Young people enjoyed the great weather to work outside on an allotment – and got to grow and cook the vegetables they grew.

Thanks to all the partners, all recognised in the video, and in particular Andy Mather from Lancashire Wildlife Trust’s My Place project, who worked with the young people.   He also supported them in building raised beds at Cornfield Cliffe, the young people’s hostel Darwen. There were of course so many others involved, and grateful thanks to all!

Hayley Bury, Youth Inclusion & Dispersed Outreach Worker at Nightsafe, said, ‘it was life affirming – no-one knew whether the young people would take to the project, but they thoroughly enjoyed it.  Just take a few minutes to look at what they achieved!’

There are more photographs of the project on our facebook page

One young person was so interested in the project that they were taken on as an assistant and most gained basic AQA qualifications.

They are all looking forward to the new growing season … watch this space.
